Tropical Storm Nicole

Remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole triggered widespread flooding throughout the Carolinas as East Coast residents brace for heavy rainfall today.

The storm soaked Cuba Wednesday and caused mudslides and left at least two people dead in Jamaica.

For the eastern coastal region of the U.S., forecasters predict periods of heavy rainfall with up to 4 to 8 inches of rain through early Friday.

North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue declared a state of emergency as the storm continued to bear down on the state, buckling decks and sidewalks and forcing cars off the road. Parts of the state are also under a tornado watch.

From Sunday to Tuesday, neighborhoods in Wilmington have already been hit with flooding. It is the second wettest September on record for city.

The area received more than 12 inches of rain and now with this system they are getting 1 to 2 inches of rain.
